Sedona Arizona Real Estate: Ancient “Real Estate” in the Verde Valley

Now this really re-defines the meaning of real estate!

Before we all inhabited the Verde Valley there were plenty of Native Americans – in particular the the Sinagua tribe. These people were attracted to the Verde River and its tributaries. The Sinagua farmed the fertible river banks and built dwellings in the cliffs - guess what? Some of those cliff dwellings are still there!

They are definitely an interesting early form of housing. They have been the focal point of many parks and monuments in Arizona as well as the subject of much study.

However, you can learn more about the Sinagua, central Arizona cliff dwellings and other structures the Sinagua built when archaeologist Matt Guebard leads a discussion at 2 p.m. Feb. 7 at Red Rock State Park in Sedona. If you are in the area it would be a great event to attend.

The Sinagua indians lived in the valley from 1125-1400 AD and bought with them their distinct culture. However exact levels of population are unknown. – This event is definitely a great day out for the family to learn more about the heritage of our great nation!

Summer is here, the kids are off school, it’s time for that family vacation, or as seems to be all the rage at the moment, taking part in a “stay-cation” then you could be in for a treat and some quality family time by enjoying all that the Red Rock State Park in Sedona has to offer this June 2009!

Open up your mind and learn something with a whole host of events at the state park. For instance: On Sunday, June 7 at 2 p.m. in the park theater, there will be a presentation entitled “Close Encounters of the Reptilian Kind.” – Great for young and old alike! An important lesson will be taught here – how to treat or avoid snakebite. Important for those family hikes.

Speaking of hikes, there is a great choice! How about “The Moonlight Hike” on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7. A chance to enjoy the sunset and moonrise. The hike lasts 2 to 2.5 hours, has an elevation climb of 200-250 feet and covers approximately 2 miles.

Or if you feel like hikes and reptiles are not your scene then you could always learn a little about birds. Every Wednesday and Saturday at 7 a.m., visitors can join a naturalist for a “Guided Bird Walk.” Beginners as well as advanced birders are welcome for this exciting lesson.

This is just a sample of what you can do in the beautiful Red Rocks in Sedona. The State Park is located at 4050 Lower Red Rock Loop in Sedona. Park hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitor Center hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tavasci Marsh in Sedona Arizona to be Restored

November 17th, 2008 cault Posted in Sedona Beauty, Sedona Parks, Sedona events, Tlaquepaque, Uncategorized, sedona real estate Comments Off

The Tavasci Marsh, the largest freshwater marsh (unrelated to the Colorado River) in Arizona, is a part of the Tuzigoot National Monument.  The marsh is designated an Important Bird Area (IBA) and is home to a large variety of bird species including the Painted Redstart, Greater Pewee, Magnificent Hummingbird, Common Black-Hawk, Western and Cassin’s Kingbirds, Vermilion Flycatcher, Summer Tanager, Abert’s Towhee and Lucy’s Warbler to name a few.  The Tavasci Marsh is spring-fed and has had many uses during its lifetime, from irrigated fields and cattle grazing to a flushing area for nearby Pecks Lake and an expanded use area for waterfowl.  Its varied use has created a need for restoring and managing the marsh to make sure that it will continue to be available as an IBA and will go into the future as a healthy wetland environment.  An Audobon program is underway to manage the restoration of the Tavasci Marsh and those interested can attend a presentation on Wednesday, November 19th at 7 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Sedona, 100 Meadowlark Drive (off Hwy. 179).  Call (928) 214-0415 for more information.

Sedona Arizona Community: Nation Cleans up local parks September 27th 2008

September 18th, 2008 admin Posted in Sedona Beauty, Sedona Parks, sedona 1 Comment »

Cleaning up the local parks is a great way for locals to get involved in their community and to feel a sense of accomplishment, here inSedona the city has teamed up with the Red Rock District of the Coconino National Forest, the Sedona Historical Society and Slide Rock State Park to celebrate the 15th annual National Public Lands Day on September 27th.

Time to dust off that outdoor work wear and get down to it! With this years theme of "Get down and dirt in the Red Rocks" it is sure to be a success. Volunteers can arrive at Posse Grounds Park at 8 a.m. to register for tasks. The focus of the event is of course to clean up trash, remove any graffiti and of course clean any over grown plants. More importantly in Sedona with so many hiking trails one of the focuses will be on removing unapproved trails as many walkers are lost each year by following these.

Originally an event for federal agencies over the years there has been more local involvement. This year it is expected that between 100 and 150 volunteers will show up and that after a mornings hard work, there is a free lunch provided at 11am.

Participants will receive a free National Park day-use pass, a poster and the first 100 attendees with receive a free T-shirt. How great is that!

If you are looking at relocating to Sedona to take advantage of this great community lifestyle then please contact Claudia Ault for professional Real Estate advice in the area. You can contact Claudia through her website: www.claudiaault.com or of course via telephone on:  928-301-3016 .
