Artist Hanging Paintings at Exhibition

Sedona is known for its great local arts scene – however it is important that a community supports its local arts and culture!

Sedona’s Art’s Center still needs your help to save the Art Barn!

The Pepsi Refresh Challenge continues throughout August and the Arts Center is ranked 71 out of 500+ ideas in the $250,000 category – we need to win! In order to win we need to get to number 1 or 2!

The Sedona Arts Center is competing for $250,000 to rehabilitate the old Art Barn Building which has been a part of Sedona since the 1930′s.

The lower level of the Art Barn was originally a Community Theater – this part was constructed in the mid 1990′s. This was a popular part of the center for a long time but as the theater business wound down, educational workshops grew! This space was converted into a classroom used for summer art camps and more!

The Wish List for the Theatre Studio is to upgrade the interior space to create a state of the art classroom environment for students of all ages that remains artistically stimulating.

This is part of Sedona’s art scene and needs our help as a community in Sedona! The arts center is so important in helping to foster the spirit of Sedona’s culture.

Sedona Arizona Real Estate & Community: Sedona’s Watering Holes – Refreshing Places After Hunting For A Home All Day!

July 6th, 2010 kinetic Posted in Sedona Alternative Lifestyles, sedona No Comments »

Bottle of red wine and wineglass, close-up

Summer is here and its now the time to cool off here in Sedona!

So after a long search for properties in the blistering summer heat take time to have a cold one in one of Sedona’s cool bars.

Naturally Sedona as a community has recently become known for its winemaking, therefore wine is most definitely in order! Particularly while enjoying the view of Sedona’s beautiful red rocks! However, don’t be fooled there are local beers too.
How about stopping at the Oak Creek Brewing Co. Sedona’s only microbrewery which has five award-winning beers.Including the infamous nut-brown ale as well as amber ale, gold lager, hefeweizen and pale ale. There is live music on the patio – perhaps leave this for an evening after househunting! Closeby for food is the Oak Creek Brewery & Grill not too far away; it brews beer on-site in burnished-copper tanks.

Or how about something a little more rustic? The Olde Sedona Bar & Grill might suit! The restaurant and bar is spacious, filled with warm wood accents, and paintings and photos of red-rock country. Music, fun and frivolity abound in the spirit of the old west!

Ok, so after a full day of viewing properties, signing the contract on that dream home you are ready to party! Then the Full Moon Saloon is it! This lively establishment, located in Tequa Festival Marketplace has a dance floor, pool tables, outdoor fireplace and live music – don’t forget the karaoke! – fun for all!

What is for sure is that Sedona has such a great atmosphere that you will feel right at home wheverver you decide to stop, chill and refresh!

Sedona Arizona Real Estate & Community: Sustainable Communities Talk April 7th Part of Water Awareness Month

March 31st, 2010 cault Posted in Arizona real estate, Sedona Alternative Lifestyles Comments Off

Glass of Mineral Water

Water Awareness Month is back again this April. As usual there is a host of events going on!

On April 7th at 6.30pm at the Sedona Public Library the Sedona WaterWise Alliance is hosting a talk by Dr. Guy McPherson, who is discussing sustainable communities, green living options and holding a mini-expo on local foods and wines.

Dr. McPherson lives off the grid growing his own food and raising small animals. There is starting to become a real movement in Sedona and the surrounding area with people taking an interest in growing their own foods and shopping locally. With an arid climate like Sedona’s water usage is important – hence the Sedona WaterWise Alliance always speaking out about better usage of our water supply.

Greener living and real estate has gained momentum the last few years at the same time more and more people have realized that the way that some things are done now is not sustainable for the future. This is why the shopping local idea works. The local economy benefits, local farmers benefit and food is not travelling thousands of miles from the farmer to your plate.

As part of this agricultural “revolution” one of the original Verde Valley Crops is undergoing a renaissance. Grapes and Winemaking - we have written about the wineries and wines that we are fortunate to have here in Sedona and the Verde Valley before. (See our wine tours article here!)

So next time you run to the grocery store – think about buying more local food and wine to help do your part!

Sedona Arizona Community: Festival of Trees at Tlaquepaque Benefits Sedona Arizona Charities in 2009!

December 23rd, 2009 cault Posted in Arizona real estate, Sedona Alternative Lifestyles, Sedona activities Comments Off

Christmas tree in holder with pack of baubles on floor

As with last year the Tlaquepaque Festival of Trees is a great success!

This year there are many local charities which are benefiting from the event.

Held at Sedona’s premier shopping and eating destination, Tlaquepaque, last year the Festival of Trees had 25 great Christmas trees elaborately decorated by some of Sedona’s favorite artists. This year the artistic flair continued!

The recent 10-day festival was a wonderful reminder of how people coming together can impact a community in very positive ways. Over $8800 was raised for local charities.

Funds will be distributed to: The Sedona Humane Society ($2726.00), Toys for Tots  ($2700.00), Camp Soaring Eagle ($2380.00), Desert Star Community School ($810.00), and the Accelerated Learning Charter School ($250.00).

This is the second year that Tlaq has hosted this festival and its success has been noted. Many people came together to make the event work again and generous sponsorships were had. Of course the quaint shops and environment of Tlaq really helped set the mood for the event.

As with last year there was an opportunity to meet the jolly big red fellow himself – yes, you guessed it – SANTA! Kids (and adults) enjoyed the thrill of meeting St. Nick.

This event, as with 2008 shows what a great community spirit there is in Sedona.

Man Wearing a Party Hat

New Years is indeed coming and what better way to celebrate than in style at El Prado by the Creek who are holding a great new years day exhibition.

El Prado by the Creek was established in 1976 and celebrates New Years’ traditions from around the world during the special Friday, January 1st hours of noon – 8pm – the gallery really is a big part of the Sedona Arizona art scene - a scene which has made the city a top relocation destination for those in the art world.

El Prado helps with New Year’s Eve recovery with Sedona-style “hair of the dog” or some soothing hot chocolate.  Relax and recuperate from a night of merry-making while exploring the gallery’s eclectic selection of fine art. During this special New Year’s Day show, see the exclusive presentation of Chinese watercolors.  Focused on lines, shapes, subjects and colors, these paintings offer distinctive views for contemplation.  Colors such as red, blue, gray and white have different meanings than in the western world, and therefore, give the viewer a new perspective.  These unique paintings help celebrate the new year, the new decade, a global focus on the world.

So, ring in the new year with a look at some of the great art available in Sedona – if you take a trip to El Prado as it is located in Tlaquepaque village, why not take some time to explore there too!
