Sedona Arizona Community: Nation Cleans up local parks September 27th 2008

Cleaning up the local parks is a great way for locals to get involved in their community and to feel a sense of accomplishment, here inSedona the city has teamed up with the Red Rock District of the Coconino National Forest, the Sedona Historical Society and Slide Rock State Park to celebrate the 15th annual National Public Lands Day on September 27th.

Time to dust off that outdoor work wear and get down to it! With this years theme of "Get down and dirt in the Red Rocks" it is sure to be a success. Volunteers can arrive at Posse Grounds Park at 8 a.m. to register for tasks. The focus of the event is of course to clean up trash, remove any graffiti and of course clean any over grown plants. More importantly in Sedona with so many hiking trails one of the focuses will be on removing unapproved trails as many walkers are lost each year by following these.

Originally an event for federal agencies over the years there has been more local involvement. This year it is expected that between 100 and 150 volunteers will show up and that after a mornings hard work, there is a free lunch provided at 11am.

Participants will receive a free National Park day-use pass, a poster and the first 100 attendees with receive a free T-shirt. How great is that!
