Sedona Area Activities: Jerome State Historic Park Arizona

If you decide that you want to take a day out and explore amenities in the area surrounding Sedona you can of course visit places such a Coconino national forest for hiking and getting back to nature.

However there is another location a short drive away which is a great chance to visit a historic home! The Jerome State Historic Park features a home which is on the National Register of Historic Places as well as antique mining equipment of the "ol’ west". The park is open from 8am til 5pm daily year round except for Christmas Day.

The area’s history goes back to Copper Mining at the turn of the last century where prospectors took advantage of the vast deposits. However after one failed venture there second run by William A. Clark was more successful and brought an unprecidented level of development to Jerome and made it into a respectable town which boasted being the largest copper mine in Arizona Territory!

Sounds like a great day out! A chance to go back in time and learn about our ancestors. Jerome is located just 28 miles by road from Sedona – you can find the Google Map directions here.
