Did John McCain help his real estate developer friend?

John McCain has remaind fairly free of real estate scandals. Although he and his wife, Cindy, do the bit of real estate investing, he has managed not to get involved in real estate scandals.

Now, though, an Arizona real estate controversy is playing out in California, as developer Donald R. Diamond faces some of his own problems, McCain is getting dragged in. Speigel reports on Donald Diamond and real estate:

When Mr. Diamond wanted to buy land at the base, Fort Ord, Mr. McCain
assigned an aide who set up a meeting at the Pentagon and later stepped
in again to help speed up the sale, according to people involved and a
deposition Mr. Diamond gave for a related lawsuit.
