Selling Your Home Requires Planning

8 Tips for Selling Your Home for the Best Price

home selling tipsNo one wants to take a cut in price because they failed to plan well. However, failing to paint over blemishes, clean out storage areas and even shampoo your carpet can impact the price for which your home sells to a large degree.

In fact, many times, the aesthetics of the home are THE deciding factor for home buyers, according to Lynda Bonarelli, President of the Long Island Board of Realtors.

–Spruce up the yard. That’s the first impression when we pull up to the house.

–Do any necessary painting and cleaning up inside the house.

–De-clutter. Nobody likes to see a messy house.

–Lynda also suggested removing most of your family photos.

–When potential buyers come through the door, have a plate of fruit or candy available for them. Make sure that they feel at home.

–Keep the front of your refrigerator clean. If you have any personal items on the fridge, put them off to the side.

–Think about odor in your house. If you have pets, or cooked something the night before, light a candle or bake some cookies or a pie; something with a nice fragrance.

–Try not to be home when the house is being shown. This will help put potential buyers at ease without the pressures of your presence.

–And don’t forget to make your bed!

Home inspections are important to buyers too.  From one of my earlier posts, here are some tips on picking the right home inspector.
